Welcome! We’re thrilled that you want to volunteer with us and LIFT-UP your community.
How do I become a volunteer?
Learn how you can LIFT-UP your community at our volunteer orientation! This virtual training will prepare you to be the best volunteer you can be as you work to help increase food security in the Roaring Fork Valley. Orientations are held twice a month – click here to view the available dates and sign-up! If you are unable to attend due to a time conflict or lack of access to Zoom but are still interested in volunteering, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss accommodations.

In an effort to ensure the health and safety of clients, volunteers and staff, as well as meeting LIFT-UP partner requirements for Food Bank of the Rockies and CDC recommendations, LIFT-UP requires the wearing of masks for clients, volunteers and staff in the following situations:
All indoor settings (Pantries of Choice, Thrift Store, Warehouse)
Outdoor settings when working within 6 feet of others
Hand-sanitizer is readily available to all. LIFT-UP does not require, but strongly encourages all individuals to get vaccinated. If un-vaccinated, masks are required at all times.
Food Distribution – Mobile Sites
Volunteers at our mobile distribution help us to safely and efficiently distribute food to our clients in a socially distanced manner. Volunteers will help with set-up before distribution by placing traffic signage, setting up tables, and unloading/organizing food items. During distribution, our volunteers greet clients and complete registrations, help direct traffic, and assist in loading food into clients’ cars.
Volunteers are needed at our mobile distributions from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the following locations:
Aspen – Tuesdays, 1st Saturday
Carbondale – Wednesdays, 2nd Saturday
Glenwood Springs – 2nd & 4th Thursdays
New Castle – 1st & 3rd Thursdays, 4th Saturday
Rifle – 1st & 3rd Fridays
Parachute – 2nd & 4th Fridays, 3rd Saturday
Our bag packing volunteers really help our organization run smoothly! We provide non-perishable goods to our clients to supplement the fresh foods they receive each week. A lot of these non-perishable goods are donated at food drives or from charitable organizations. Volunteers will help to sort and organize these items, and create bags with a variety of non-perishable items to hand out at distributions. Bag packing is a great opportunity for groups of up to six volunteers – bring some classmates, colleagues, or family members and race to see who can complete the most bags!
Volunteers can help pack bags at the below locations:
Parachute: Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Rifle: M-W-F, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
(Please note that both of these locations are indoor spaces.)
Rifle Thrift Store
Volunteers are needed to work in the LIFT-UP Rifle Thrift Store to help with donations, store displays, customers, and more! Be part of the retail team with a once a week sign up. Thrift Store proceeds help fund LIFT-UP food programs.

The Meal Monkey lunch program was created when the Garfield County RE2 School District went to a 4-day school week resulting in no school on Fridays. Many students rely on school provided meals, consequently with no school on Fridays, these children have limited access to food over the three non-school days.
LIFT-UP, in partnership with the RE2 School District, Food Bank of the Rockies and the River Center provide meals on Fridays throughout the year at no charge to children (18 & under) in key locations in Rifle, Silt and Newcastle.
Contact Waylon at email@example.com for any further questions.
I can’t volunteer for the whole time of the distribution or other event. Can I still help?
Absolutely! Many of our volunteers sometimes need to leave early, or come a bit late. We welcome you to still volunteer if you can make it for at least half the shift – just make sure to inform your site contact or include this in the comments section of your signup!
Can I bring my children with me to volunteer?
Please do! Volunteering with your children is a great way to introduce them to the idea of serving their community. We do ask that you remain with your children for the duration of the volunteering event. For younger children, bag packing would be a more feasible option than mobile distribution, as we want to make sure we keep everyone safe around moving cars.
I need to fulfill court ordered community service. Is it possible to do this with your organization?
Of course, we’d love to have you as a part of our team! We ask that you indicate this on your registration and on your Sign-Up information so that we can accurately track and report hours. A lot of community service volunteers find our bag packing opportunities in Parachute most appealing as you are able to complete between 2-7 hours in one day!
What if the weather is bad on the day I signed up?
We will continue on with distributions and bag packing events in snowy weather, unless the conditions are extreme and limit our own staff from safely traveling to these events. We completely understand if you cannot make it due to driving concerns, as our volunteers’ safety is our top priority! Just let us know that you can’t make it by texting the contact for your event.
