Pantry Volunteers in Aspen & Rifle


  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays • 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

  • Wednesday evenings • 4 – 6 p.m.

Lead Volunteers Needed in Aspen & Carbondale Pantries

SUMMARY: Oversee food pantry in all aspects of operation.

  • Check pantry email regularly

  • Attend monthly meetings

  • Make sure all clients are in computer system by the end of each month

Volunteer Coordination

  • Schedule volunteers to serve clients

  • Update volunteers on new procedures

  • Be available by phone or email to answer volunteer questions

  • Train and schedule new volunteers

  • Train volunteers for commodities for once-a-month distribution

  • Train all volunteers on computer and make sure they are using computer to input clients

Food Inventory

  • Make sure food pantry is adequately stocked, and/or any supplies or inventory are ordered from main office

  • Complete or make sure monthly reports are completed and sent to Rifle Office no later than the 5th of each month

  • Ensure Grocery Rescue donations are picked up according to schedule we are on with each store and poundage reported to Waylon within 24 hours of pick up

Physical capabilities

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to unload a trailer of food if one shows up from Rifle office (food orders or commodities)

Thrift Store Associate – Parachute

​General Objectives

  1. Responsible for assisting clients while providing excellent customer service

  2. Help keep the Thrift Store clean, organized and welcoming at all times both inside and outside the store.

  3. Receive, sort, clean and stock donations

  4. Keep cash drawer balanced

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Provide exceptional customer service at all time

  2. Stay focused and stay busy. There is always work to do.

  3. Follow guidelines for acceptable donations

  4. Suggest store promotions, sales and other revenue generating ideas to Thrift Store Manager

  5. Help keep store stay clean and appealing to drive sales

  6. Help train Thrift Store volunteers as needed.

  7. Participates in organization’s safety guidelines, performance improvement initiatives and fundraisers

  8. Works collegially with staff, clients and volunteers

Objective Measures for Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Help with maintenance of adequate acceptable inventory

  2. Help sort, clean, tag, and place items in correct place in store.

  3. Help customers bring in donations and load purchases as needed.

  4. Ensure donation receipts are always offered and completed accurately

  5. Requests store supplies as needed from Thrift Store Manager.

  6. Pick up donations as requested by store manager

  7. Help train Thrift Store volunteers

  8. Communication:
    - Verbally communicates with Thrift Store Manager on daily/consistent basis
    - Verbally and/or written communication with the Thrift Store Manager whenever there are issues

  9. PI and Safety:
    - Completes daily work load using common safety practices
    - Participates in performance improvement projects (as directed by Thrift Store Manager)
    - Participates in fundraisers (as directed by Thrift Store Manager)
    - Attend/conduct designated meetings (as directed by Thrift Store Manager or ED)

  10. Works collegially with others:
    - Interact with other staff with respect
    - Interact with clients, volunteers, donors and program partners with respect. Treat them with dignity.

  • Have a strong aptitude in researching, compiling and analyzing data

  • 3-5 years’ experience in retail and or the customer service industry preferred

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language fluently, and communicate verbally and in writing at a professional level

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Physical Requirements

  • May be required to do heavy lifting- 50 pounds or greater

Working Conditions

  • Must wear appropriate clothing to meet public. Business casual for the store is preferred.

  • Subject to multiple daily demands

  • Must navigate road system and maintain current drivers license, clean driving record and current vehicle insurance.
