LIFT-UP’s new Parachute Thrift Store now open for business.
LIFT-UP’s new thrift store location in Parachute is now open for business. The new store is located in the former Hideout building at 201 East 1st Street. LIFT-UP’s Parachute food pantry is still at the current location, 112 North Fisher Avenue.
The transition to the new location was completed by mid-May, and already shoppers are responding to the new facility. “We’ve had more customers and more donations of goods since we moved across the street to the new building,” according to store manager, Doug Saxton, adding “many of the customers are new, first-time shoppers, which is great. Word of mouth is spreading quickly.”
The store is now open Monday through Friday from 10am to 5pm, and Saturdays may be added when enough volunteers are available to staff the increased business hours. More volunteers are needed for the thrift store and food pantry, and male volunteers would be appreciated to help with lifting. Those interested in volunteering a few hours per week may contact Doug at 285-7903.
The store requests that all donated clothing and furniture be in like-new, gently-used condition, and that housewares and electrical appliances are in good working order. Televisions, computer equipment, major appliances, hardware and sporting goods are not being accepted.
LIFT-UP’s thrift stores in Parachute and Rifle provide values for shoppers, and all proceeds from sales are used to fund the organization’s mission to feed hungry families throughout the local region. Since the downturn in the economy, LIFT-UP has seen dramatic increases in all of its services at food pantries, thrift stores and at The Extended Table Soup Kitchen.
LIFT-UP wishes to gratefully acknowledge the Manaus Fund for making the new facility available, and also B.A.D. Builders, contractor Paul Heiman, Tapestry Builders and the Kiwanis Club for their invaluable assistance in getting the building ready to serve the community.
